Premature ejaculation is something that most men worry quite a bit about, and as anyone with a penis knows, sometimes too much worrying can be detrimental! It’s not an unfixable problem – in fact, it may not even be a problem at all – and there are a few different approaches that men can take on their own or with their partner’s cooperation.
Read on to learn more about premature ejaculation, what a doctor can do about it, and what you and your partner can do about it. Natural, herbal delay sprays are an easy and safe option that should be in your tool chest, but there are also quite a few other things that you can try in conjunction with that product. Remember that sex should be fun for everyone, and worrying too much is not fun for anyone, so approach this with a light touch and adventurous spirit.
Premature ejaculation is generally understood to mean that the man ejaculates before he wants to. It’s not something that most men like to talk about, even with their doctors, but it’s estimated that between one in three and one in five men consider premature ejaculation to be a problem in their partnered sex lives.
The most common medical definition of premature ejaculation is when ejaculation happens within one minute, or, more subjectively, if the man cannot control or delay his ejaculation. There is medical help available for men who are diagnosed with premature ejaculation, and these remedies can include phosphodiesterase inhibitors such as Viagra, Levitra, or Cialis, or off-label use of antidepressants that are known to delay or even completely inhibit ejaculation.
This leaves millions of men who don’t want to go to a doctor, don’t qualify for a medical diagnosis, or don’t want to take prescription drugs, but who would still like to address what they consider to be premature ejaculation. Available and accessible options include stamina training, new lovemaking techniques, and herbal delay spray – or, better yet, a combination of all three!
Men who are interested in learning how to intentionally delay their ejaculations can use their personal play time to “train” their bodies to stop just short of orgasm (these techniques can also be practiced with an interested partner, but it’s usually more effective to start out solo first).
During regular masturbation, when the man feels as if he is about to ejaculate, he should stop, grasp the shaft with a thumb and one or two fingers, and apply light pressure just below the head for about 20 seconds. If this successfully holds off the ejaculation, he should resume masturbation, and repeat the process as many times as desired. The goal is to eventually be able to delay the orgasm without the need to stop and squeeze, and upwards of 60% of men are able to achieve this to some degree.
Similar success can be found with sex toys such as pocket pussies, some of which are even marketed for this purpose. Any penetrative sex toy will work just fine, so men should select whichever appeals to them the most. The idea is the same as above; use the toy or stroker as normal until ejaculation feels imminent, stop (with or without the squeeze), resume play, and repeat at least a few times. While the squeeze technique works well, there are plenty of men who prefer practicing with a pocket pussy since it is closer to penetrative, partnered sex.
Pelvic floor exercises, such as Kegels and other perineal muscle contractions, can also help men learn how to delay ejaculation. Men who reported no success with behavioral or medical therapies were put on a 12-week regimen of pelvic floor exercises and 82% reported significant improvement by the end of the therapy.
The main reason why most men want to delay what they consider to be premature ejaculation is so that they can satisfy their partners, and that’s a very worthy goal indeed! However, it’s worth noting that in heterosexual sex, the vast majority of women report that they do not orgasm from penetration alone.
In many cases, sex may be more fun for both partners if there’s less pressure on the woman to orgasm during intercourse and less pressure on the man to hold off his own orgasm in an effort to facilitate hers.
Partners can make sure that the woman orgasms before intercourse even starts (through oral sex or the use of sex toys); if the focus is on her orgasm before intercourse, it can be entirely on his during intercourse, with no expectations about how long it should last.
Herbal Delay Spray
Another nonmedical option available to men who want to last a little longer is natural herbal delay spray. These are sprays that are applied to the head (sometimes the head and shaft) of the penis before partnered sex starts. They desensitize the penis head so that sensation is dulled and therefore ejaculation does not happen as quickly.
These delay sprays usually deliver as promised, and since they are applied topically and are designed for short-term effects, there are very few side effects. As with all creams, lubes, sprays, and other products, we highly recommend doing a patch test first on the inside of your arm before applying it to an area as sensitive as your genitals.
If you do choose to take advantage of one of these delay sprays, give it enough time to dry thoroughly before you have penetrative sex with a partner. If the point of delaying ejaculation is to give your partner enough time to climax before you or with you, you certainly don’t want to risk numbing any part of your partner! Also, if you plan to use condoms or sex toys, make sure that they are compatible with the ingredients in the spray.
Premature ejaculation means that the man ejaculates before he wants to. There are multiple ways of addressing this “problem,” including medical intervention, stamina training, a different style of lovemaking, and herbal delay spray, and the good news is that you can use as many of these as you and your partner please!
